A possible new method for improving the accuracy in the Lense–Thirring effect measurement

چکیده
In this paper we try to suggest a possible novel method to determine some selected even zonal harmonics Jl of the Earth’s geopotential. Time series some years long of suitably linearly combined residuals of some Keplerian orbital elements of certain existing geodetic SLR satellites would be examined and corrections ∆Jl for the even zonals which we are interested in would be obtained. A CHAMP/GRACE-only background reference model should be used for the part of the geopotential which we are not interested in. The retrieved values for the even zonal harmonics of interest would be, by construction, independent of each other and of any post-Newtonian features. The so obtained mini-model could, subsequently, be used in order to enhance the accuracy and the reliability of some tests of post-Newtonian gravity, with particular emphasis to the measurement of the Lense-Thirring effect by means of LAGEOS and LAGEOS II. Reasonable evaluations of the accuracy which could be obtained for this relativistic test are given.

متن کاملOn Possible A-Priori "Imprinting" of General Relativity Itself on the Performed Lense-Thirring Tests with LAGEOS Satellites
The impact of possible a-priori “imprinting” effects of general relativity itself on recent attempts to measure the general relativistic Lense-Thirring effect with the LAGEOS satellites orbiting the Earth and the terrestrial geopotential models from the dedicated mission GRACE is investigated. It is analytically shown that general relativity, not explicitly solved for in the GRACE-based models,...

The possibility of analyzing the node Ω of the GP-B satellite in order to measure also the Lense-Thirring effect on its orbit is examined. This feature is induced by the general relativistic gravitomagnetic component of the Earth gravitational field. The GP-B mission has been launched in April 2004 and is aimed mainly to the measurement of the gravitomagnetic precession of four gyroscopes carri...
متن کاملA new approach for investigating secular variations of the low-degree geopotential coefficients
Recent tests aimed at the detection of the general relativistic gravitomagnetic Lense-Thirring effect in the gravitational field of the Earth with the LAGEOS and LAGEOS II satellites have proved to be affected, among other things, by the corrupting impact of the secular variations J̇4 and J̇6 of the second and third even zonal harmonic coefficients of the multipolar expansion of the terrestrial g...
